The Ultimate CMS...well maybe that's a bit ambitious, but I'm currently on the hunt for a new CMS.
I've got several musician websites that I'll be building, beginning with mine of course! In any case, I've been checking out the options available in CMS space these days....I can't believe the sheer number of frameworks, cms pieces and full blown systems that are out there these days. My needs are particular, I don't want a giant code base to worry about. I want to be able to extend the system quickly. I want a nice editor like CKEditor . I would like the system to be asp.net or mvc based, but I'm am a little flexible there....
This site is currently running BlogEngine.Net, which I like because it's simple and the code base is small and fast. I've always favored simplicity over features, BlogEngine provides simplicity and stability. I choose it for this site for those reasons. It's great as a blog engine, although I wouldn't consider it a full blown CMS like some of the other packages I'm looking at. In any case, I've got nothing but raves for it and I'm positive I will use it more in the future.
I checked out Umbraco , it was ok , seemed a bit much for my needs, and the install was painful.
On the php side there is Wordpress, Drupal, Expression Engine. They all seemed powerful and well supported by community advocates and worldwide fans. Unfortunately my php skills are limited, and I'm going to doing a lot of integration work, so I'll lean toward an asp.net or mvc solution if I can.
I'm really interested in N2, seems to be just what I need, lightweight but powerful enough to be flexible. One other entry I'm checking out is MVCCMS I've been building some apps with MVC and so far, I'm impressed, so it's natural to want a CMS built with the latest and greatest, MVC.
Stay tuned for part 2.
